New York Times' post "When the Critic Says an Art Form Is Dying" is questioning "Is Ballet Over?"
This is one of my questions, when I check out recent programs through famous theatres.
Truly, recent ballet programs tend to be, what Jennifer Homans stated, "museums for the old."
Is that so?
You can see comments from some famous figures about that questions that includes pressures from board members and so on.
I personally just hope that ballet can open up new fields with old traditions but without oppression from that, even though it won't come as long as elders don't want change and want to be filled with a sense of their nostalgia...
I like Ballet, so I don't want to let it be over.

Performing Arts Center @ Purchase College
If you are purchase students or live around there, you cannot miss great opportunities at Performing Arts Center at Purchase College!
The Performing Arts Center is a theatre complex within SUNY Purchase College, and as we are going into the winter, the season of this year at PAC is getting exciting!
Recently, I personally attended Anna Deavere Smith’s “Let Me Down Easy,” her solo play representing a dramatic range of interview subjects, from artists and athletes to doctors, and I had such a wonderful night with great theatrical experience.
Importantly, I am a Purchase student, so I only have to pay $5 for a student rush ticket!
From this week, a national traditional winter program, “Nutcracker 2010” is coming! In this year, it will have principle dancers from New York City Ballet, so don’t miss it!
For further information about programs of this winter season at PAC, you can check HERE, or their Facebook page!
Do not miss, and get such a nice deal at Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase College!

Studios where you can take classes of hip-hop dance in NYC
Do you wonder if there is any studio where you can take hip-hop dance classes around NYC?
Although those styles have been founded mostly from streets or dance club scenes, now there are many places you can actually learn and practice those styles in a studio as a class!
I post here some of famous places where you can take official lessons around NYC
1.
Peridance Cepezio Center is such a place that has famous figures of hip-hop dance scenes as its teachers including Archie, Jazzy J, or Brian Green. If you want to learn styles, such as House, Popping, Breaking, or Rocking with amazing performers, here is a right place to go.

I post here some of famous places where you can take official lessons around NYC
1.
One of the biggest studios opening hip-hop dance classes at 322 West 45th Street. You can take variety of styles including hip-hop, street jazz, jazz funk, and lots more with variety of teachers. They also have winter/summer workshops for those who want to practice in an intensive terms.
2.
Steps on Broadway is a studio providing a huge variety of dance styles including Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, and Hip-Hop at Broadway, 74th Street New York. They open for any level, from beginners to advanced. They also hold many performances/events, such as teachers' showcases or artists talks, so even you are not dancers or future dancers, it worth to check out this studio.

4.
And, here is PMT Dance Studio at 69 14th Street New York. It is a bit small but famous as their variety of workshops through dance and music and their programs associated with NYU and Alvin Ailey. And also, this is the place where my friend, Sugaloo, holds his Popping dance class! You can take classes from a drop-in class to an intensive workshop here.
Those are just few examples of places where you can take hip-hop classes, and there are lots more places you can look for. Believe or not, hip-hop workshops are now as usual as those of Ballet or Modern in NYC!
But, of course, those cost some of your money and time for driving to NYC and etc, and many of you don't want to pay for that even though you are pretty interested in and likely to experience it.
Don't worry!! For these guys, I WILL hold hip-hop dance workshops on campus in the near future! So, please keep checking updates and do not miss any opportunity for your furture experiences!!

BAM, Next Wave Festival - Vollmond (Full Moon)
Although I am promoting hip-hop and other related dance events, I am also a big fan of Modern dance. Yes I am!
And, on this weekend, I went to Next Wave Festival @ BAM, Brooklyn Academy of Music, to see Vollmond (Full Moon), a truly wonderful modern dance piece by Pina Bausch!!
It was just a astonishing performance. Water runs in a rivulet on the stage, splashed over the rock, rain falls down, and those amazing dances spread and cover the house with passions and emotions....
Yes, that was one of the best intensive and crazy yet beautiful performance I've ever seen, and I really really really enjoyed it!
The program is ended, but Next Wave Festival is still going on, and there is a lot of interesting performances/events.
Please visit Next Wave Festival website to look for future programs.
Believe me! BAM is one of really worth places visiting when you come to NYC!

Welcome!
Hello, all. This is the blog associated with Minority @ Purchase, drawing up the street/hip-hop dance workshops at SUNY Purchase College.
This blog will post every update of the project, and also any related events/spots around the college and any other area.
Also, if you are interested in hip-hop dance/any other minor genre and want to share your favorite artists or events, please put comments or contact to me! - it will help my own project, too.
Furthermore, I'm always looking for someone who can help this project or bring some information about updates in the field, such as info about Purchase students playing hip-hop dance, etc. You don't need to be professionals or performers. All you need is interests and enthusiasm!
So, let's get together and put something more interesting on campus!
